Taipei's most expensive parking space costs nearly $US253,000

Taipei, Nov. 26 (CNA) Along with Taipei's sky-high housing prices, buying a parking space in the capital city is a very costly endeavor, with the most expensive one priced at NT$8.2 million (US$252,392), according to surveys conducted by local realtors. The most expensive parking spaces were found to be those at a luxury compound in the Xinyi District, which were sold at NT$8.2 million each in July 2014, the realtors said. The compound itself is also among the most expensive houses in Taipei. Lang Mei-nan (???) of Great Home Realty said that expensive houses usually come with costly parking spaces. With a budget of NT$8.2 million, some could afford to buy an apartment in neighboring New Taipei, Lang said, trying to explain how expensive such a parking space is. The top 10 most expensive parking spaces in Taipei range from NT$4.14 million to NT$8.2 million, and are located in the Xinyi and Zhongshan districts, as well as the Dazhi area, said Chien Szu-ming (???) of H&B Realty Co., one of Taiwan's leading property sales agencies. Meanwhile, housing prices in Taipei soared by almost 200 percent in the past 20 years, showing the fastest growth among the six major municipalities in Taiwan, according to a research report released by Sinyi Realty Inc earlier this year. In the report, Sinyi Realty, one of Taiwan's leading property sales agencies, said that during the period of 1995-2014, home prices in Taipei rose 196.5 percent from NT$229,000 (US$7,387) per ping (3.3 square meters) to NT$679,000 per ping on average.
