LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) -- Bolivian officials say an Australian tourist has been hospitalized for depression after being jailed for allegedly trying to carry dynamite onto a flight to Brazil.
Two other Australian travelers who were accompanying the man have been ordered not to leave the country while he is under investigation for possession of explosives.
Authorities have identified the man as 24-year-old Giovanni Vicenzo Masumeci. He and the others were detained at an airport last week. Officials say they found a stick of dynamite and a detonator in Musumeci's luggage.
Police say the travelers told them they bought it in the tourist city of Potosi, in southern Bolivia, where dynamite is freely sold for mine operations.
The Australian Embassy in Bolivia declined to comment, citing privacy reasons.
