Ex-VP arrives in Manila for APEC summit meeting

Manila, Nov. 16 (CNA) Former Vice President Vincent Siew arrived in Manila on Monday to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' summit being held from Nov. 18 to 19.

The official APEC Facebook page posted pictures of Siew arriving with his wife in a special plane and Rene Almendras, secretary to the Cabinet of the Philippines, greeting him.

Siew was scheduled to speak at the APEC CEO summit Monday afternoon. He was one of only a few leaders invited to give a speech at the CEO gathering because of his economic expertise.

Starting Tuesday, Siew will hold bilateral talks with representatives of four or five economies attending the APEC ministerial meeting, and he will attend the leaders' summit on Nov. 18 and 19.

Due to a tight schedule, there are no plans for a meeting between Siew and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, but the two are expected to chat if the occasion arises.
