Taiwan ranks 6th in Global Entrepreneurship Index

Taipei, Nov. 13 (CNA) Taiwan ranked sixth out of 132 countries in the Global Entrepreneurship Index (GEI) for 2016 released Friday, two places up from last year. Taiwan also led Asian countries as the most attractive place in the region to launch a start-up in the new year, according to the annual report from the U.S.-based Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute. The United States came in first in the report, followed by Canada, Australia, Denmark and Sweden. While scoring 69.7 out of a perfect 100 in the GEI, Taiwan registered 61.9, 65.9 and 81.6 in the three sub-indices of entrepreneurial attitudes, entrepreneurial abilities and entrepreneurial aspirations, respectively. These scores resulted in Taiwan ranking 14th, 15th and second in all countries in the three categories, separately, the report showed. Taiwan has been included in the countries assessed by the non-profit institute since the 2012 report and has made the top 10 each year. The Global Entrepreneurship Index aims to provide an overview of different countries' entrepreneurship ecosystems and helps reveal the bottlenecks that erode hard-won competitive advantages for startups, said Global Entrepreneurship Network President Jonathan Ortmans in an introduction to the report.
