CANBERRA, Australia (AP) -- Mile Jedinak put Australia ahead on a penalty with five minutes left in the first half and veteran Tim Cahill helped clinch the win with a 50th-minute goal to give the Socceroos a 3-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan in an Asian World Cup qualifier Thursday.
The win left Australia in second place in Group B, a point behind Jordan, after five matches.
Despite having 74 percent possession in the first half, Australia only took the lead in the 40th minute on Jedinak's goal. Cahill, with his 42nd international goal, put Australia ahead 2-0 before an Ildar Amirov own-goal in the 69th minute.
Australia is scheduled to play Bangladesh next Tuesday in Dhaka.
