Eric Chu arrives in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, Nov. 10 (CNA) Kuomintang (KMT) chairman and presidential candidate Eric Chu (???) arrived in Los Angles Tuesday as part of his week-long visit to the United States to draw support for his presidential bid. Chu was greeted by many Taiwanese expatriates upon arriving, among them Steve C.C. Hsia (???), director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles. Speaking to reporters at the airport, Chu said he was happy to see so many supporters and that he would like to thank everyone on behalf of President Ma Ying-jeou (???) and Deputy Legislative Speaker Hung Hsiu-chu (???). Chu said he phoned President Ma before departing from Taipei and that he will expound on the KMT's hope a peaceful development in cross-Taiwan Strait relations to the U.S. and on Taiwan's desire to continue close trade and economic ties with the U.S.
Chu is slated to proceed to Washington Wednesday, where he will meet ranking U.S. officials and think tank scholars, and will visit New York and San Francisco before returning to Taipei on Nov. 16. Chu is accompanied by Jason Yuan (???), former Taiwan representative to the United States; former Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Yang (???); Ho Szu-yin (???), former deputy secretary-general of the National Security Council; Lin Yi-hua (???), chief of the KMT's Culture and Communications Committee; and Kuo Yun-kuang (???), director of the KMT's Department of Overseas and International Affairs, on the trip.
