'My government will have best communication skills': DPP's Tsai

Taipei, Nov. 8 (CNA) Tsai Ing-wen (???), the chairwoman and presidential candidate of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), on Sunday expressed confidence in her ability to communicate, and said that if elected, her government will be the best communicating government ever in Taiwan. The government should listen to the voices of the people, communicate with the people, and be effective and in line with public opinion, Tsai said at an event in Taichung, where she campaigned for DPP legislative candidate Huang Kuo-shu (???). "So as I said before, Tsai Ing-wen's government will definitely be the most capable government ever in terms of communication," she said. Tsai said the presidential and legislative elections in January next year are critical, calling them a choice between returning to Taiwan's authoritarian past or embracing a democratic future. At the event, Tsai reiterated the political reforms she plans to push if elected president, including ending Taiwan's vicious political infighting and improving government efficiency and transparency. She also stressed her plans to push affordable housing, tighten food safety, introduce child care and long-term care services in communities for the young and the elderly, reform the pension system to make it more equal, and step up drug prevention, especially among young people.
