Vatican treasures to go on display in Taiwan next year

Taipei, Nov. 6 (CNA) A total of 60 sets of relics from the Holy See will be displayed at the National Palace Museum in Taipei next year, offering viewers an insight into the history and culture of the Catholic Church, the museum said Friday. The exhibition, dubbed "Heavenly Treasures," will be held Feb. 5-May 2, showcasing the culture and history of the world's largest Christian church, which has had a vast influence on the world over the past centuries, according to the museum. The partnership, confirmed Thursday between museum director Fung Ming-chu (???) and Guido Marini, master of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations in the Vatican, is also aimed at attracting Catholics and art lovers in Taiwan, the museum said. It said the highlight of the exhibition will be the Mandylion of Edessa-- a towel said to have been used by Jesus Christ to dry his face and has since borne his image. The relic, also known as the Holy Towel of Jesus, and other religious items such as vestments used in sacraments, will highlight the beauty of the Catholic Church, the museum said.
