Ma-Xi meeting in line with PFP policy: Soong

Taipei, Nov. 4 (CNA) James Soong(???), chairman of the People First Party (PFP), said Wednesday that his party has no objection to a forthcoming meeting between President Ma Ying-jeou (???) and Chinese President Xi Jinping (???) in Singapore, as it is in keeping with the PFP policy of seeking peaceful development of cross-Taiwan Strait relations. In a written statement, Soong said that a pragmatic meeting between Ma and Xi, the leaders of Taiwan and China, can help maintain stability in East Asia and soften the longstanding political confrontation between the two sides. The PFP insists on equality, dignity, transparency, participation and supervision in politics, Soong said. Therefore, although the PFP does not object to Ma and Xi meeting in a third country, the party is calling on the Ma administration to explain clearly to the Legislative Yuan, all the political parties and the people the process of negotiation in planning the meeting and what is expected to be achieved, Soong said. Meanwhile, Soong urged Taiwan's other political parties not to impede the peaceful development of cross-strait relations. He also suggested that Ma and Xi take the opportunity to apologize to the people of Taiwan and mainland China for the historical mistakes of their predecessors, which he said had led to displacement and suffering of the people.
