SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Police in Puerto Rico have charged boxer Juan Manuel Lopez Rivera with domestic violence.
Authorities say the 32-year-old boxer known as "Juanma" Lopez turned himself in on Sunday after an arrest warrant was issued in his absence over the weekend. He was released on a $50,000 bond and instructed to wear an ankle monitor until his upcoming court hearing.
Police said the former WBO featherweight champion is accused charged with hitting his wife in the face on Saturday. Officials said she was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries.
Defense attorney Rafael Borras said his client was not guilty.
