Local bourse gains, led by electronics, financial stocks

Taipei, Nov. 2 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan ended above the 8,600-point mark Monday, driven mainly by the electronics and financial sectors, dealers said. The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange ended up 60.46 points, or 0.71 percent, at 8,614.77, after moving between 8,524.01 and 8,614.77. Turnover totaled NT$77.74 billion (US$2.39 billion) during the session. The gains were led by electronics and financial stocks, which rose 0.88 percent and 0.53 percent, respectively. Largan Precision Co. (???), the most expensive stock on the local market, jumped 4.14 percent to close at NT$2,640. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (???), the most heavily weighted stock on the local market, gained 0.73 percent to end at NT$137.5. In the financial sector, Cathay Financial Holding Co. (???) finished up 0.65 percent at NT$46.7, Fubon Financial Holding Co. (???) climbed 0.76 percent to end at NT$53.1, and CTBC Financial Holding Co. (???) rose 1.12 percent to NT$18.05. In the old-economy sector, rubber stocks gained 1.35 percent, cement stocks 0.75 percent, plastics stocks 0.65 percent and textile stocks 0.77 percent.
