EVA Air to launch services to Istanbul next March

Taipei, Oct. 22 (CNA) EVA Air, Taiwan's second-largest carrier, announced Thursday that it will begin operating services between Taipei and Istanbul starting March 5 next year to capitalize on the growing interest by Taiwanese in traveling to the country. The services will be operated four times a week -- on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the airline said, adding that despite the new flights, it will continue offering code-share services with Turkish Airlines, which currently operates daily flights between the two cities. The two airlines launched code-share flights in March of this year in hopes that passengers from both airlines would benefit from a higher number of combined flight frequencies for better connectivity and increased travel flexibility between the two countries, according to EVA Air. Turkey will play a more important role in its global flight network, the carrier said, explaining that the location of the country allows smoother flight connections to the major cities in Europe -- including Frankfurt, Barcelona, Lisbon, Copenhagen and Stockholm -- because it takes no more than two to three hours from Istanbul.
