Dengue fever claims 122 lives in Taiwan: latest CECC figures

Taipei, Oct.21 (CNA) Dengue fever has claimed a total of 122 lives so far this year in Taiwan, according to the latest tallies released Wednesday by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC). So far this week, the health authorities have investigated 31 suspected deaths caused by dengue fever, of which 16 have been confirmed, the CECC said. Of the overall death toll, 102 cases were recorded in Tainan, while 18 cases were reported in Kaohsiung, and two others in neighboring Pingtung, all in southern Taiwan. The latest figures bring the total number of reported cases since May to 26,022, most of them in Tainan and Kaohsiung. (By Lung Pei-ning and Brook Hsiao)
