HTC share price rises on eve of launch of new smartphone series

Taipei, Oct. 19 (CNA) The share price of Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corp. rose Monday on the eve of the launch of its new One series, setting a new high of more than four months. The share price of HTC opened high and moved higher, rising by 10 percent at one point, the maximum daily increase, to NT$82.2 (US$2.55), a new high since NT$75.30 recorded June 9. HTC's share price has been in decline since this year. It hit bottom at NT$40.35 Aug. 24, when it announced a US$60 million share buy-back. The share price has rebounded by 103 percent since the repurchase program to restore investor confidence and increase shareholder value. HTC is set to launch its much-anticipated One series, believed to be the HTC One A9, simultaneously online in New York, Taipei, London and New Delhi on Oct. 20. The new One series is expected to boost sales of HTC in the fourth quarter. Shares of HTC closed at NT$81 Monday, up NT$6.2 from the previous session. (By Esme Jiang and Lilian Wu)
