Taipei center launched to foster creative reuse of materials

Taipei, Oct. 18 (CNA) A center was launched in Taipei on Saturday to foster the creative use of leftover materials and promote environmental education. The Creative Reuse Center was launched by the Lovely Taiwan Foundation at the TAF (Taiwan Air Force) Innovation Base. Currently, more than 20 small and medium-sized enterprises provide the center with leftover materials, excess inventory and defective goods. The center will offer workshops teaching how to turn these materials into art, according to the foundation. "We hope to strengthen our environmental, creativity and aesthetic education by launching the center," foundation chairman Ko Wen-chang (???) said at the opening. The center was inspired by a visit to a similar institution in the U.S. more than a decade ago. After starting the Lovely Taiwan Foundation in 2009, he and his wife thought it important to bring such ideas to Taiwan, Ko said. Former Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai and founder/artistic director of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre Lin Hwai-min attended the official opening. The center will hold about 20 workshops in October and November. (By Christie Chen)
