V Air to launch flights to Japan, the Philippines

Taipei, Oct. 16 (CNA) V Air, a low-cost carrier owned by Taiwan's TransAsia Airways, said Friday that it will launch flights to Japan and the Philippines in the next five months in an effort to expand its operations. The airline will acquire its third and fourth aircraft in the coming months, which will be used to provide air service from Taiwan to destinations in Japan and the Philippines, it said. It is expected to launch flights to Japan's Nagoya in December and to Fukuoka and Osaka in January, the carrier said. After the fourth aircraft is delivered in March next year, the airline will begin operating flights to Japan's capital Tokyo and the Philippines' capital Manila, it said. V Air currently operates air services between Taiwan and Busan in South Korea, as well as to Bangkok and Chiang Mai in Thailand. All of the flights from Taiwan depart from the Taoyuan International Airport, near Taipei. The airline said once it acquires its fifth aircraft, it will be able to provide service from Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, to destinations in Japan. (By Wei Shu and Elaine Hou)
