CAL launches Taiwan's first maintenance training center

Taipei, Oct. 16 (CNA) China Airlines (CAL) launched Taiwan's first aircraft maintenance training center Friday, as part of a push to become among the top 10 best airlines in the world within three years. In response to the fast-growing aviation market, CAL, Taiwan's largest air carrier, invested more than NT$50 million (US$1.5 million) to create the country's first aircraft maintenance training center, with the aim of improving the country's flight safety. According to CAL President Chang Yu-hern (???), the center will also provide training courses for maintenance engineers to upgrade their licenses to meet European Aviation Safety Agency maintenance standards, which Taiwan adopted in 2013. The launch of the training center is expected to shorten the maintenance training time from the current three years to two years, according to the company. CAL, ranked 52 in the Skytrax World Airline Awards for 2015, said it will also work with other airlines to improve Taiwan's aircraft maintenance industry. (By Chen Wei-ting and Lee Mei-yu)
