Solomon Islands governor-general lauds Kaohsiung hospital

Kaohsiung, Oct. 13 (CNA) Visiting Solomons Islands Governor-General Frank Kabui lauded the excellent medical care provided by the Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital as he underwent a physical examination there Tuesday. Kabui, who was in Taiwan to attend the Republic of China Double Ten national day celebrations, visited the university in southern Taiwan, where he received a warm welcome. After his physical, he toured the hospital to see its hyperbaric oxygen center and its Taiwan medical history hall. He expressed hope that Solomon Islands National University can have a memorial hall like the one at the Kaohsiung Medical University. Kabui also met with 12 students from the South Pacific island nation who are studying at the Kaohsiung Medical University. The university not only shines in medical care, but also provides strong support for his nation's medical education, Kabui said. He said that when Taiwan and Solomon Islands established diplomatic ties in 1983, he served as grand justice and had no connections with Taiwan. It was not until 2010, when he was serving as governor-general and was invited to Taiwan, that he realized the excellent medical care he received at the Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital when he got his first physical there. He was also impressed to receive his examination results just a day later. On his second visit to Taiwan, in 2013, his wife was found to have a kidney stone, resulting in hematuria and a decline of kidney function. His wife later returned to Kaohsiung Medical University to undergo surgery and has since made regular return visits. Kabui and his delegation were scheduled to return home later Tuesday.
