206 trains to be rescheduled from Thursday

Taipei, Oct. 13 (CNA) The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) has decided to adjust the schedules of 206 trains, which account for over 20 percent of all the trains operated by the agency. The adjustments will begin Thursday, with freight and passenger trains on the line running between Kaohsiung and Chaozhou Township in Pingtung County, southern Taiwan, the most affected by the changes, the TRA announced Tuesday. The number of trains on the line will be increased from a total of 66 runs per day to 118; and among them, the current 60 passenger train runs will be increased to 107, with the headway -- the length of time between trains -- to be decreased from 34 minutes to 19 minutes, the agency said. The number of trains running on the eastern Taiwan line will also be increased with the completion of the Shoufeng-Nanping double track project in Hualien County, the TRA said. At the same time, the introduction of a new model of commuter train for the whole railway system will increase capacity by 33 percent, as some of the new EMU800 trains will be used to service tourist attractions such as Ruifang and Pingxi in New Taipei.
