LONDON (AP) -- Victor Matfield believes he will be OK to play for and lead South Africa against Wales in the Rugby World Cup quarterfinals next weekend.
Matfield missed the Springboks' last two Pool B matches against Scotland and the United States after he strained his left hamstring again.
The hamstring first flared when he was leading the Springboks in July against Australia in the Rugby Championship, and he didn't play again for a month.
His workload has been managed to get the 38-year-old lock through the World Cup to this point, the knockout stage. The Springboks face Wales next Saturday at Twickenham.
"I was a bit frustrated last week with the hamstring," he said Sunday. The recovery "was a bit slow, and I thought it would be better. But running yesterday and today, it felt pretty good, so I think I'm positive for the weekend."
