Taiwan pavilion in Frankfurt to feature over 700 publications

Taipei, Oct. 11 (CNA) The Taiwan pavilion at Germany's Frankfurt Book Fair, the largest book fair in the world, will feature more than 700 publications this year. A total of 95 publishers from Taiwan will showcase 774 print and digital publications from Oct. 14-18, according to the Taipei Book Fair Foundation, which together with the Ministry of Culture is responsible for the Taiwan pavilion. Taiwanese comic artist Kiya Chang (???), historian and columnist Hsu Tsung-mao (???) and art designer Huang Pao-chin (???) will be involved in talks, book signings and launches at the fair. Chang is best known for her comic book "Formosa Oolong Tea" (????), which won her the Best New Comic Artist award at the 2014 Golden Comic Awards. The book tells how British tea merchant John Dodd and Chinese businessman Li Chunsheng introduced the world to Oolong tea from Taiwan in the late 19th century. Hsu, who has collected and published historical images since 2000, will launch a new photo album "Sui Yue Tai Wan" (???? literally, Taiwan through the ages) at the fair. The book features photographs taken by American pastor Barry L. Schuttler in Taiwan in the 1960s. Huang, an art designer who has received multiple awards including the iF Design Award and Red Dot Design Award, will give a speech on book design.
Last year, more than 7,100 exhibitors from 106 countries attended the fair, with visitors exceeding 269,000. Indonesia is this year's theme country. (By Christie Chen)
