Foreign delegations to attend National Day celebrations

Taipei, Oct. 7 (CNA) Dozens of foreign delegations, including those from the United States, Japan and Taiwan's diplomatic allies, will attend events later this week in celebration of the Republic of China's 104th founding anniversary. At least 35 foreign delegations, comprising 349 visitors, are scheduled to attend an Oct. 10 National Day reception at the Taipei Guest House, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is organizing the event. The visitors from Taiwan's diplomatic allies include Honduras Vice President Ricardo Antonio Alvarez Arias, Paraguay Vice President Juan Eudes Afara Maciel and Swaziland Deputy Prime Minister Paul Dlamini, as well as senior officials from the Solomon Islands and St. Kitts and Nevis, said ministry spokeswoman Eleanor Wang (???). Among the visitors from the U.S. are a Republican Party delegation led by Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, and Connecticut Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, she said. Parliamentary delegations from Japan, South Korea and Scotland will also attend the celebration, Wang told CNA. The National Day reception will feature music performances that include Taiwanese and Western songs, she said. The attendees will also be served an array of gourmet dishes made with local produce to give the visitors a taste of Taiwan, she went on. The food to be served will include traditional Taiwanese and Hakka dishes, as well as aboriginal dishes such as steamed rice with bamboo shoots, she added. The reception will follow a National Day celebration to be held in the plaza in front of the Presidential Office, which will feature a series of performances by the military and other activities.
