PRAGUE (AP) -- Czech police say they have seized an unusually large amount of powerful illegal explosives and further dangerous substances and arrested four people who allegedly wanted to sell them on the black market.
Spokesman Pavel Hantak says police seized more than 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of various explosives, including Semtex, and over 1,000 detonators.
Hantak says police made the seizure, one of their biggest, in a massive operation after receiving a tip they were available for sale in the criminal underworld.
Investigators also seized some 150 kilograms of materials that are used to make explosives and 50 kilograms of unspecified dangerous poisons and highly toxic materials. Hantak said Wednesday experts on radioactive, chemical and biological materials had to be involved in the police operation.
