Taiwan, Oregon sign reciprocal driver's license accord

Taipei, Oct. 1 (CNA) Taiwan and the U.S. state of Oregon have signed a driver's license reciprocity agreement that allows the citizens of the two sides to exchange their driver's license for a local license without having to take a road test, according to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle. Chin Hsing, director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Seattle, signed the accord Sept. 28 with Tom McClellan, administrator at the Oregon Department of Transportation. The signing of the agreement, which goes into effect Oct. 2, is aimed at making the lives of Taiwanese citizens living in Oregon more convenient. According to the agreement, Taiwanese citizens with legal residence in Oregon are allowed to get a local driver's license by taking a written test and presenting their Taiwanese license and related documents. Likewise, Oregon citizens with more than one year's legal permission to reside in Taiwan can enjoy reciprocal treatment. Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Maryland, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, West Virginia and Arizona have also signed reciprocal agreements with Taiwan on driver's license exemptions.
