Explosions kill 3, injure 13 in southern China city

BEIJING (AP) -- Chinese state media say a series of explosions targeting public buildings in a small southern city have killed at least three people and injured 13 in a case believed to be criminal.

The official Xinhua News Agency said there were 13 blasts in Liuzhou county in the southern region of Guangxi on Wednesday.

Quoting local police, Xinhua says the blasts took place at a hospital, a market, a supermarket, a bus station, and government buildings such as a township office, center for disease control and a dormitory building for government workers.

The state broadcaster CCTV says the local police chief has called the case criminal in nature and said the blasts were triggered by explosive devices delivered in several mail packages.
