Rob Schneider to promote Taiwanese gourmet restaurants in L.A.

Taipei, Sept. 30 (CNA) Hollywood comedian Rob Schneider attended the "Overseas Quality Restaurant" awards ceremony Tuesday at the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECO) in Los Angeles, in an effort to promote restaurants which serve authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Nearly one hundred restaurants run by Taiwanese compatriots were awarded the "Gourmet Taiwan-Overseas Quality Restaurant" label, an initiative sponsored by Taiwan's Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC,???) to bring Taiwanese delicacies under the international spotlight, throughout the United States and Canada for the past three years. Steve Hsia (???), Director-General of TECO in Los Angeles, said that Taiwan's cuisine is so famous that it has been chosen as one of the top 10 best destinations for foodies by U.S. Cable News Network (CNN). And with this restaurants award program, it can attract more foreign visitors to Taiwan to enjoy the country's unique delicacies, added Hsia. Schneider, a long-time fan of Taiwanese food and culture, has been to Taiwan many times and also spent a week-long honeymoon on the island with his wife in 2011. He said that he especially loves Taiwan's local cuisine and chicken soup has always been his favorite while his wife enjoys Dongshan duck head the most. The American actor stated that Taiwan had left him impressed with the friendliness of the locals and "making Taiwanese friends is like having a longtime friend." He also said he would love to return to Taiwan to taste the local food again. (By Oscar Wu and Lee Mei-yu)
