China expels Supreme Court deputy justice over corruption

BEIJING (AP) -- A former justice of China's Supreme Court is facing possible corruption charges, and has been stripped of membership in the ruling Communist Party and fired from all public positions.

The party's internal disciplinary body said Tuesday that Xi Xiaoming, formerly one of the nine deputy justices for the country's top court, has severely violated political discipline and disobeyed the cardinal policy of ruling the country in accordance with the law.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection says Xi has been disloyal and dishonest to the party and failed to disclose personal matters to the party. It says Xi used his position to seek benefits for others and to take bribes.

Xi's case is alarming in that it points to substantial corruption at the highest level of China's judiciary.
