Typhoon Dujuan makes landfall on Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 28 (CNA) Typhoon Dujuan made landfall at Su'ao Township (??) in northeastern Taiwan's Yilan County at around 6 p.m. Monday, bringing torrential rain and strong gusting wind across the country. Under the storm's impact, the township experienced gusts reaching 243.7 kilometers per hour, the second-highest on record since the local weather station was established 34 years ago. Previously, the strongest gusts ever experienced in Su'ao occurred in 1994 during Typhoon Gladys, when wind speeds hit 246.9 kph, according to bureau data. As of 5 p.m., the storm was centered 60 km northeast of Hualien, moving at a speed of 21 kph in a west-northwesterly direction, the bureau said. With a radius of 220 km, the storm's maximum sustained winds were estimated at 184 kph, according to forecasters. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
