Asia-Pacific Culture Day to kick off next month

Taipei, Sept. 25 (CNA) An annual event aimed at promoting cultural and arts exchanges between Taiwan and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region will kick off next month in Taipei, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Asia-Pacific Culture Day, now in its fourth year, will feature the music, dance and handicrafts of 20 participating regional countries, a ministry official said earlier this week. This year's event will present shows from countries including South Korea, Tuvalu, Palau, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and the Solomon Islands, said Elliott Charng (???), director-general of the ministry's Department of East Asian and Pacific Affairs. "It will mark the first time Myanmar has participated in the cultural event," he said. Participating countries will also set up booths to introduce their cultures and specialty products, he added. The event is slated for Oct. 24-25 at the Taipei Main Station, the ministry said. (By Elaine Hou)
