President Ma to hold teleconference with MEPs

Taipei, Sept. 25 (CNA) President Ma Ying-jeou (???) and members of the European Parliament will discuss Taiwan's relations with Europe and peace in the Asia-Pacific region during a teleconference that is scheduled for next week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday. Ma has been invited by Werner Langen, chairman of the EP-Taiwan Friendship Group, to address members of the European Parliament on Sept. 29, and will take questions after his speech, the ministry said in a statement. It said the president's address will focus on strengthening Taiwan-Europe relations and maintaining peace in the Asia-Pacific region. The participating European parliamentarians will include members of the committees on foreign affairs, economic affairs, international trade, energy and transportation, the ministry said. The teleconference will be streamed live on the websites of the Presidential Office and the Foreign Ministry. It is the first time since Ma took office in 2008 that he will hold a teleconference with members of the European Parliament but he has done so with several U.S.-based think tanks and universities over the years.
