List of accidents involving AT-3 trainers in Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 22 (CNA) A twin-engine AT-3 trainer belonging to the Air Force Academy lost contact with air controllers early Tuesday afternoon during a training flight. The following are accidents involving AT-3 trainers that have occurred in Taiwan since 1994. -- During a routine flight training mission on Jan. 26, 1994, an AT-3 trainer crashed into the sea off the coast of Hsinchu due to engine failure, leaving one pilot dead. The other pilot was rescued. -- On a formation flight training mission on Feb. 28, 1996, an AT-3 trainer crashed in what was then Kaohsiung County's Chiaotou Township, again due to engine failure. The instructor managed to bail out and survived. -- On June 27, 1997, an AT-3 trainer crashed into a mountain in Taitung County during a training mission, leaving both the instructor and his trainee dead. -- On Feb. 3, 2012, two AT-3 trainers collided during a formation flight training mission. One of the aircraft crashed into a mountainous area of Pingtung County. Two pilots survived by bailing out. -- On Oct. 21, 2014, two AT-3 trainers collided during an aerobatic flight training mission. One of the aircraft crashed into a field in Kaohsiung's Zihguan District, killing its pilot. -- On Sept. 22, 2015, an AT-3 trainer disappeared off radar screens about half an hour after taking off from an Air Force base in Kaohsiung.
