Taiwanese electric car maker eying 2017 entry to European market

Taipei, Sept. 17 (CNA) Thunder Power (??), a Taiwanese electronics company that debuted its electric car at the Frankfurt Motor show this year, said Thursday it is aiming to put the vehicle on the European market by 2017. The company said it is also planning to enter the Chinese market by 2018 and the United States after that. Touting a range of 650 kilometers on a single charge, Thunder Power's electric car created a stir when it was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor show, drawing the attention of more than 700 reporters. Thunder Power also received requests for interviews from about 20 professional media enterprises. The company said it plans to set up a major production plant in Shaoxing (??) in China's Zhejiang province, and another in Europe in the future. The electric car runs on a 125 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that takes six hours to charge on a standard system, and one hour in fast charging mode, the company said. It said buyers will be able to choose between a 230 kW (308 bhp) of the vehicle and a 320 kW (430 bhp) version that can go from 0-62 mph in less than five seconds and top out at 155 mph. The vehicle was designed by Zagato, the Italian design house known for its work with Aston Martin, while the battery technology was developed by Bosch, Dallara and CSI, according to Thunder Power.
