Taiwanese vessel homeward bound after detention in Philippines

Manila, Sept. 17 (CNA) A Taiwanese fishing boat that was detained in the Philippines for more than three months left for home Thursday after completing all legal procedures. The boat sailed out of the port of San Vicente, north of Luzon, Taiwan's representative office in the Philippines told CNA. It is expected to arrive in Taiwan within two days. The Pingtung County-registered boat, the Der Man Fu No. 3 (???3?) , was seized by a Philippine patrol boat June 11 for entering Philippine territorial waters. The captain, surnamed Lin, and chief engineer, surnamed Wu, were interrogated in the Luzon municipality of Aparri and were later detained in San Vicent. After the fine and mooring fees were paid and legal procedures completed, the ship was ready to go in late August, but then encountered Typhoon Goni and was swept onto the beach, about 20 meters above the tideline. It then refloated and was towed out to sea Sept. 14. Taiwan's representative office warned the ship to leave Philippine waters quickly. (By Emerson Lim and Lilian Wu) EENDITEM/J
