6 Indonesians injured as fishing boat hit by waves in Fugui Cape

Taipei, Sept. 14 (CNA) A Kaohisung-registered fishing boat was battered by massive rogue waves while operating in waters off Fugui Cape (???) in New Taipei on Sunday, resulting in injuries to six Indonesian crew members on the vessel. After being informed of the accident, the Coast Guard Administration's Keelung division dispatched two patrol ships to the scene Monday morning and transported four of the injured Indonesian workers to area hospitals. The most seriously injured of the four, who was sent to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Keelung, suffered fractures to his face and had concussion symptoms. The other three were sent to Keelung Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, with one sustaining a partially collapsed lung, another suffering injuries to his feet and the third being treated for lacerations to his forehead. The 500-ton trawler departed from Kaohsiung on Aug. 24 and was struck by strong waves in waters off Fugui Cape on the tip of northern Taiwan on Sunday night. There were 16 Indonesian workers and three Taiwanese crew members aboard the vessel when the accident occurred, according to the chief engineer. (By Wang Chao-yu and Evelyn Kao)
