3 Chinese, 2 Taiwanese injured in tour bus accident

Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) Three Chinese and two Taiwanese were slightly injured in a tour bus accident in central Taiwan Friday, the Directorate General of Highways said. The bus carrying eight Chinese and two Taiwanese, including the driver, is believed to have been hit by a Porsche that traveling in the opposite direction, according to the Tourism Bureau. The accident occurred around noon on Provincial Highway 21 near the scenic Sun Moon Lake area. The three Chinese passengers in the bus and the two people traveling in the car were injured and were taken to a nearby hospital, the bureau said. Initial investigations found that the Porsche's driver, a 22-year-old woman from Kaohsiung, drove across the center line on a downhill curve and hit the tourist bus. The Chinese visitors are travel agents from Zhejiang Province in coastal China, who are visiting Taiwan under a free independent traveler program Sept. 7-12 to explore new travel packages, according to the Tourism Bureau.
