The first French-Chinese translation award, launched by the Association Taiwanaise des Traducteurs de Fran蓷is (ATTF), opened for application submissions Sept. 1 and will accept applications until Sept. 30, according to the organizer. The competition is open to translated works of original French novels and prose published between Sept. 1, 2014 and Aug. 1, 2015. It does not include poetry, plays, children's books, juvenile literature or picture books. The translators must be Republic of China citizens. The ATTF competition will present awards in two categories -- literary works, which will be held annualy, and social sciences, which will be awarded every three years. The winners of the two categories of the competition, the first of its kind to be held in Taiwan, will each be awarded with a cash prize of NT$50,000 (US$1,537) and a trophy. The winners will be announced by a jury in December and the award ceremony will take place at the 2016 Taipei International Book Exhibition to be held in February. (By Sabine Cheng and Lauren Hung)
