WASHINGTON (AP) -- The head of the largest U.S. labor federation says the Democratic presidential contest is "still wide open" and Vice President Joe Biden still has time to enter the field.
Richard Trumka tells a newsmaker breakfast he doesn't know whether Biden will join the field but has a "lot on his shoulders" as he makes a decision. The labor leader met last week with the vice president.
Trumka says Democratic front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton needs "to figure out how to energize workers" but says "she can catch fire too." He says her rival Sen. Bernie Sanders is "connecting" with party supporters.
His appearance was at an event sponsored by The Christian Science Monitor newspaper.
