Magnitude-5.5 earthquake hits eastern Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 1 (CNA) A magnitude-5.5 earthquake hit the eastern county of Hualien at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday, the Central Weather Bureau said. The quake's epicenter was located at 11.1 km southwest of Hualien County government building at a depth of 20.3 km in Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, according to the CWB. The bureau earlier estimated the magnitude of the quake at four or higher. No immediate reports of casualty or damage were available. (By S.C. Chang)
