MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- Fremantle held Melbourne to a single point in the first quarter and led by 30 points early to clinch first place in the Australian Football League on Sunday with one round remaining.
The Dockers ended a two-game losing streak to beat the Demons 17.6 (108) to 8.6 (54).
Earlier Sunday, Adelaide forward Josh Jenkins kicked six goals as the Crows beat West Coast 19.12 (126) to 10.9 (69), leaving the second-place Eagles with no chance of overtaking the Dockers for the minor premiership.
The defending champion and third-place Hawthorn Hawks, two points behind the Eagles, beat Brisbane 21.8 (134) to 9.8 (62).
Geelong failed to make the top eight and didn't advance to the playoffs for the first time in nine years, losing 17.8 (110) to 9.8 (62) to Collingwood.
