Cultural heritage international symposium to be held in Taipei

Taipei, Aug. 24 (CNA) The International Committee for Documentation of Cultural Heritage (CIPA) will host its 25th Congress and international symposium in Taipei at the end of the month, exposing Taiwan to new cultural preservation ideas and technologies, the Ministry of Culture said Monday. The committee, one of the international committees under the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), will host its congress and symposium in Taiwan for the first time from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4, according to the ministry. CIPA was established to improve the methods for surveying cultural monuments and sites, so as to better preserve and restore them. Among the speakers will be Gustavo Araoz, president of ICOMOS, Bonnie Burnham, president and CEO of the World Monuments Fund, and Chen Jun, president of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. It is hoped that the events will introduce new preservation technologies and resources to Taiwan and expand Taiwan's participation in international cultural heritage projects, according to the Ministry of Culture. The congress and symposium will take place at China University of Technology. Close to 300 experts from Taiwan and abroad are expected to attend the congress and symposium, which will include speeches, workshops and a youth camp focused on technologies to preserve cultural heritage.
