COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) -- Ravichandran Ashwin ripped through the Sri Lankan batting order to complete a five-wicket haul and put India on the verge of a series-leveling win on the fifth day of the second test Monday.
Resuming on 72-2 chasing 413 to win, Sri Lanka lost seven wickets in the opening session for just 58 runs to reach 130-9 when rain stopped play 12 minutes before the scheduled lunch break. Sri Lanka still trails India by 282 runs.
Fast bowler Umesh Yadav dismissed Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews (23) with the first ball of the day, caught by stand-in wicketkeeper Lokesh Rahul.
Sri Lanka's specialist batsmen Dinesh Chandimal (15), Lahiru Thirimanne (11) and Jehan Mubarak (0) all got out cheaply as Ashwin returned figures of 5-42.
