Hotel restaurants nearly fully booked as rains abate

Taipei, Aug. 8 (CNA) As winds and rains brought by Typhoon Soudelor abated in Taipei Saturday afternoon, many people in the city chose to keep their reservations at hotel restaurants that night or make new ones to celebrate Father's Day. According to Grand Garden Restaurant at The Grand Hotel, some people canceled their reservations at noon but new bookings began to come in during the afternoon. Approximately 90 percent of the tables for Saturday night have been booked, and the tables for Sunday are also nearly fully booked, the restaurant said. Shang Palace at Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel said it was fully booked for Saturday night, while Canton Court at the Ambassador Hotel said about 20 percent of its tables were reserved. Father's Day in Taiwan is celebrated on Aug. 8, and many families mark the occasion by eating out at well-known hotel restaurants. Taipei's Public Transportation Office, meanwhile, said that bus service in the city would resume at 6 p.m. except in mountainous areas. (By Zoe Wei and Y.F. Low)
