KAZAN, Russia (AP) -- Bronte Campbell won the 100-meter freestyle in an upset at the world swimming championships.
The Australian sprinter got her hand on the wall just in front of Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden on Friday, winning in 52.52 seconds.
Sjostrom earned silver in 52.70, a repeat of her finish two years ago in Barcelona. Bronte's older sister, Cate, took bronze in 52.82 after winning the race in Spain.
Bronte Campbell was under world-record pace at the turn, with her sister in close pursuit. The sisters hugged before Bronte pumped her right hand.
Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands, the bronze medalist in 2013, was fourth.
Simone Manuel of the United States was sixth and teammate Missy Franklin seventh.
