Pingtung plans to hold world record event

Taipei, Aug. 6 (CNA) Pingtung County government plans to invite 1,000 people to play "yue qin" (??), a two-string Taiwanese musical instrument, and sing ballads in Hengchun Township on Oct. 17, in an effort to establish a new Guinness World Record. Currently, about 400 people have confirmed their participation in the event, leaving another 600 places to be filled, according to the Cultural Affairs Department of Pingtung County government. The event will be part of the 2015 Hengchun Folk Music Festival which begins on Oct. 9. Pingtung County government will also invite performing groups from Okinawa, Japan, to attend the festival. Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Meng-an (???) said it is hoped that the festival will help to further promote the Hengchun folk music. (By Kuo Chih-hsuan and Bill Lin)
