Weather bureau to issue land warning for Typhoon Soudelor

Taipei, Aug. 6 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau on Thursday said it will issue a land warning for Typhoon Soudelor at 8:30 p.m., warning against strong gusts and heavy rainfall as the storm is expected to pummel the island on Friday and Saturday. As of 5:30 p.m., Soudelor was centered 790 km east-southeast of Hualien, moving at a speed of 23 km per hour in a west-northwesterly direction, the bureau said. It is packing maximum sustained winds of 173 kph, with gusts reaching 209 kph, it said. The storm could make landfall somewhere between Hualien and Taitung in eastern Taiwan between late Friday and early Saturday, forecasters said. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
