U.S. Trade Day expected to create US$416 million-worth of orders

Taipei, Aug. 5 (CNA) The U.S. Trade Day show held Wednesday in Taipei is expected to create business opportunities worth US$416 million, according to one of the co-organizers. The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA, ????), a government-sponsored trade promotion organization, said in a post-event statement that the estimate includes US$212 million-worth of procurement orders placed by 15 U.S. buyers and US$204 million-worth of orders placed by nine U.S. sellers. The result greatly outperformed last year's event, when combined orders worth US$282 million were placed by 13 U.S. buyers and nine U.S. sellers. Now in its fourth year, the 2015 U.S. Trade Day was co-organized by TAITRA and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) to promote investment in the United States. The U.S. Trade Day is part of a SelectUSA Investment Road Show that will also take place in Kaohsiung on Thursday. The day features one-on-one meetings between representatives of the participating U.S. states and Taiwanese businesses. Representatives from the states of Idaho, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, as well as from McKinney City in Texas, use the event to introduce investment and commercial opportunities in their respective locations, the AIT said. Obama established the SelectUSA initiative by Executive Order in June 2011, paving the way for the federal government to showcase the United States as the world's premier business location and to provide easy access to federal-level programs and services related to business investment.
