ALKMAAR, Netherlands (AP) -- Dutch club AZ Alkmaar says it has given Aron Johannsson permission to talk to Werder Bremen after both sides agreed on a transfer of the U.S. striker.
AZ says on its website Tuesday "when AZ and Werder have completely worked out the details, Johannsson reaches a personal agreement and he comes through the medical test, the American international will sign a multi-year contract."
There was no immediate confirmation from Bremen of a deal.
The 24-year-old Johannsson tells Dutch broadcaster RTV Noord-Holland "the Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world. It's an easy decision for me as I want to play for a stronger team in a stronger league."
Johannsson, who scored four goals in 17 games for the national team, joined AZ two years ago from Aarhus in Denmark.
