Taiwan LCD TV shipments post 8.6% year-on-year decline in Q2

Taipei, Aug. 2 (CNA) Taiwan makers' shipments of liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions reached 7.97 million units in the second quarter of 2015, up 6.6 percent sequentially but down 8.6 percent year-on-year, according to Digitimes Research. Demand in the second quarter was weak overall and the makers saw weak shipments to Mexico despite tenders for digital TVs in the Central American country, Digitimes Research said in a report on Friday. Also, Chinese TV vendor Haier Electronics Group Co. reduced orders to Taiwanese contract makers during the quarter, while Taiwan-based Compal Electronics Inc. (??) suffered from a decline in orders from Japan's Toshiba Corp., the report said. Heading into the third quarter, LCD TV shipments from Taiwanese makers are expected to climb by 22.1 percent quarter-on-quarter to 9.71 million units and by another 4.6 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015 due to rising demand for 23.6-inch models in Mexico and for 50-inch models globally, Digitimes Research said. For 2015, Taiwan makers' LCD TV shipments are likely to decline 2.3 percent from last year to 35.35 million units, clinging to a 16 percent share of the expected global shipments of 221 million units, according to the Taipei-based research company.
