SANZAR appeals Australia flanker Hooper's 1-week ban

SANZAR has appealed against the decision of its own judicial officer to suspend Australia forward Michael Hooper for one week for hitting an opponent, allowing him to play the Rugby Championship decider next week.

Hooper was found guilty by SANZAR's Nigel Hampton on Thursday of slapping Argentina flyhalf Nicolas Sanchez, who was tugging his jersey in the championship match in Mendoza last weekend.

Hampton banned Hooper for a week, preventing him from playing for Manly in a club playoff, but freeing him to meet the All Blacks in Sydney on Aug. 8.

SANZAR review appeal reviews officer Graeme Mew of Canada referred the decision to the SANZAR appeals committee, which will hear the appeal on Sunday.
