Taiwan bags 31 medals in 2015 International Math Competition

Taipei, July 31 (CNA) Taiwanese students have come away with 31 medals in the 2015 International Mathematics Competition (IMC) in China, which has been going on in Changchun, Jilin Province since July 27.
The medals include three golds, 12 silvers and 6 bronzes. The 32-member Taiwanese team also bagged 10 medals for excellent performance in the IMC, the world's second-largest math contest in terms of scale, surpassed only by the International Mathematical Olympiad.
More than 600 elementary and junior high school students from 28 countries are taking part in this year's IMC in China, which will run through Aug. 1.
Sixth grader Liu Te-cheng, who won a gold medal in the singles round for elementary school students, said in a press release from the Taiwanese team that math is his favorite subject.
It is the third time he has attended the international math competition and the first in which he has earned a gold medal, managing only silver in his previous two games, Liu said. (By Lo Kuang-jen and Elizabeth Hsu)
